MY GO TO TOP FISHING LURE

FISHING FOR BASS

I love largemouth bass fishing. I have a go to lure and technique for LMB. Largemouth bass inhabit most of the United States. From the clear waters of the north to the muddy waters of the south you can find bass. The structure they use is similar but varies between each lake even within the local area.

MY TOP LURE FOR BASS

5in Sanko from Yamamoto baits https://www.baits.com  . Texas rigged on a 3 o/t offset gap Gamakatsu hook   https://gamakatsu.com/ weightless.  Using several colors from Yamamoto from June-bug, green-pumpkin, orange craw. I will have 20lb braid to a 12lb leader. This set up can be on spinning or casting reel. I use a 7ft6in ultra-light rod.

The technique

The technique I use is simple, but I incorporate a finesse and power style. I cast to a target first and allow the lure to sink naturally. While your lure sinks watch your line for any change not caused by wind. If your slack line has cures in it and it starts to straighten out reel down and set the hook. If your line starts moving left or right reel down and set the hook. If your line is putting off S.O.S signals in the form of ripples on the water reel down and set the hook. Remember hook sets are free but missed opportunities will cost you.

The second part is the power technique of the retrieve. I will in various positions give three slack line jerks to the bait. Straight up will bring the lure up in the water column then let it fall again. A left or right jerk will dart the bait in a walking the dog fashion. I will continue to do this until I believe I am out of the strike zone.

Versatility

This is my go-to lure. This lure is very versatile so experiment with it. I use it as a target intended bait and a search bait especially when the bite is tuff. This is also a great follow up bait if you are using a top-water lure and fish misses that bait. Like everything in life practice makes perfect.
